Central Texas Batman who hands out care packages to homeless people in Waco gets new wheels

DONIE, Texas (KWTX) - A good samaritan who dresses as Batman and gives out care packages to the homeless got a gift of his own on Sunday that will help make his mission a lot easier.

The caped crusader goes by Bruce Grom, but that’s not his real name.

“I want people to understand that it’s not about me, it’s not about a person, it’s about an idea,” Grom said.

KWTX’s Alex Fulton previously did a story with Grom, which caught the attention of a KWTX viewer who wanted to help Grom with his mission. After seeing Fulton’s story, Trent Turner from Donie reached out to the Texas Sidecar Company owner who then emailed Fulton to connect him with Grom.

“I was watching Channel 10 in the morning to watch the weather and I saw the interview with Batman and what his ministry was and I thought he could use a sidecar,” Turner said.

Turner along with one of his friends, donated $1,500 to cover the cost of the supplies and the Texas Sidecar Company provided the labor.

“You read or you watch or you see it happen to everyone, but when it happens to you it’s kind of a surreal moment,” Grom said. “It’s like a gift from above that God gives.”

Before, Grom’s wife had to follow him in her SUV to carry all the care packages because they wouldn’t fit in Grom’s motorcycle.

“I wanna do so much more and only God knows the doors that are going to open for me in the future,” Grom said.

Since the original story aired in February, Grom has no longer been doing his delivered. However, he has been collecting supplies and actually has backpacks ready to be distributed. He plans on collaborating with local homeless shelters to potentially grill burgers and hot dogs outside facilities sometime this summer.
