SEC Football Previews: Arkansas Razorbacks welcome back Bobby Petrino

BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - Arkansas is running back its best hits by bringing in former head coach Bobby Petrino to serve as offensive coordinator under head coach Sam Pittman for the 2024 season. Petrino worked his way back into Power Four football last season as the offensive coordinator for Texas A&M. Here is a short preview of the Razorbacks:

COACH — Sam Pittman 23-25 overall (23-25 in four seasons at Arkansas).

2023 SEASON — 4-8 overall, 1-7 in SEC (T-6th, West).

RETURNING STARTERS — 9 (4 offensive, 5 defensive).

TOP PLAYERS — QB Taylen Green, WR Andrew Armstrong, TE Luke Hasz, DE Landon Jackson, DT Cam Ball, CB Jaylon Braxton, FS Hudson Clark.

KEY LOSSES — QB KJ Jefferson, RB Rocket Sanders, C Beaux Limmer, LB Chris Paul, LB Jaheim Thomas, DB Lorando Johnson.

SEASON OUTLOOK — Arkansas ranked 105th on the nation in total offense last season, averaging 326.5 yards per game. So, enter Petrino, who orchestrated some of the Razorback’s most potent offensive seasons while serving as head coach. He’ll have Boise State transfer dual-threat quarterback Taylen Green to run his RPO-heavy offense. Defense was Arkansas’ strong suit last season, ranking 46th in the nation in total defensive yards allowed (357.2). Defensive end Landon Jackson is the front line of that squad who registered 13.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks last year.
