SEC Football Previews: South Carolina Gamecocks add transfer depth
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - South Carolina came in at 126th in the nation in rushing offense last year and bolstered their ground game through the transfer portal this offseason. Here is a short preview of the Gamecocks:
COACH — Shane Beamer: 20-18 overall (20-18 in three seasons at South Carolina.
2023 SEASON — 5-7 overall, 3-5 in SEC (T-4th, East).
RETURNING STARTERS — 13 (5 offensive, 7 defensive, 1 special teams).
TOP PLAYERS — QB LaNorris Sellers, RB Raheim Sanders, WR Nyck Harbor, TE Joshua Simon, LB Debo Williams, NB Jalon Kilgore, S Nick Emmanwori.
KEY LOSSES — QB Spencer Rattler, RB Mario Anderson, WR Xavier Legette, C Nick Gargiulo, CB Marcellas Dial, PK Mitch Jeter.
SEASON OUTLOOK — After averaging 85.1 rushing yards per game last season, Beamer brought in former Arkansas All-American Raheim Sanders to help solidify the position. In 2022, his last full season, Sanders rushed for 1,443 yards and 10 touchdowns with the Razorbacks. The Gamecocks will also replace quarterback Rattler with LaNorris Sellers. On defense, All-SEC linebacker Debo Williams holds down a unit that ranked 87th in total yards allowed last season (395.7).
