COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) - A Texas Department of Public Safety trooper was relieved of his game day assignment following an incident at a Texas A&M football game, according to a social media post by the department.

DPS referred KBTX to its media and communications office, which has not responded to questions regarding the incident at time of publication.

Video shows the trooper bumping South Carolina wide receiver Nyck Harbor and running back Oscar Adaway III after Harbor scored an 80-yard touchdown in the second quarter. Both players ran partially up the northeast tunnel of Kyle Field in celebration of the score. After the initial contact, the trooper turned towards the players and pointed a finger at one and appeared to be upset.

DPS said the trooper involved was sent home from the game. The department’s Office of Inspector General is aware of the incident and will investigate the matter further.

South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer said he was unaware of the incident after the game.

“I did not see that,” he said. “Wasn’t aware of that. Got a ton of respect for the people here at College Station. It’s a first-class operation. Everybody, from a game operations standpoint, they do a great job and are first-class people. So, I appreciate them handling that the right way and sending him home.”
