COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) - For the second time, Kyle Field will play host to an international soccer friendly, this time in preparation for the 2026 World Cup.

The men’s national teams from Argentina and Honduras will square off in a World Cup warm-up match in Kyle Field on June 6, according to a source with knowledge of the plans.

Texas A&M is scheduled to make an announcement regarding the game at 12:30 Thursday, but did not reveal which teams will be participating. According to the release, representatives from Texas A&M, the city of College Station, United Events and Florida Citrus Sports will be in attendance.

Argentina, who won the World Cup in 1978, 1986 and 2022, features superstar Lionel Messi, as well as Julian Alvarez of Athletico Madrid, Alexis Mac Allister of Liverpool and Cristian Romero of Tottenham Hotspur.

At 38 years old, it is widely believed this could be Messi’s final World Cup. The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner has yet to announce if he will participate in the 2026 tournament.

Argentina opens World Cup Group J play on Jun 16 against Algeria in Kansas City. Dallas will then host the team for games against Austria on June 22 and Jordan on Jun 27. They have the fifth-best odds to win the tournament, according to DraftKings Sportsbook, behind Spain, France, England and Brazil.

Honduras did not qualify for the 2026 World cup.

In 2024, Kyle Field hosted a friendly between Mexico and Brazil in front of a crowd of 85,249, marking the first time an international soccer game was played in the home of Aggie football.

Group stage games for the 2026 World Cup begin on June 11. Dallas and Houston will both host games throughout the tournament.
